2021 New Hope Turkey Run Cancelled
Due to the ongoing Pandemic, Duke Forest is limiting the size of groups visiting the Forest and they will not allow something the size of the Turkey Run at this time. We have already printed the Tshirts which are long sleeved and a great color combination. We don’t ever have dates on the Tshirts so we’ll be able to use them next year! We do plan on having the Turkey Run next year – November 12,2022 – so stay in shape. And stay safe! The Tshirt sponsors should be supported for donating funds for what turned out to be next year’s shirts and they are listed below.

New Hope Animal Hospital, between Durham and Chapel Hill
Thanks everyone and see you next November.

Ice Cream Social and NHFD Open House 8/14/21
Greetings, all residents of the New Hope area! The New Hope Improvement Association invites everyone to come out and enjoy some Ice Cream, music, outdoor games, and fellowship next Saturday afternoon from 2 to 4 pm.
To ensure everyone’s health, all the ice cream will be individually wrapped (like it fell out of a truck), and we ask that you wear masks when enjoying the AC indoors in our meeting hall, or when visiting the Fireman’s trucks in their Open House.
Come meet your neighbors, and cool down a little in this ‘still hot’ end of summer event.

Hike & History of Hollow Rock 3/20/21
Please join us on a hike next Saturday, March 20, at 10 am at Hollow Rock Nature Preserve on Erwin Rd.
Our quest – the hollow rocks on New Hope Creek that were visited by John Lawson in 1701 and described in his book in 1709. The book describes his journey through what is now North and South Carolina but few locations can be identified with as much certainty as this unusual rock formation in our own neighborhood. The route of our hike is relatively flat (one hill) and is dry right now but no guarantees. Please join amateur historians Steve Herman and Walter Fowler for a very worthwhile Saturday morning jaunt. There is more on the NHIA schedule that you will hear about soon.
We ask that all participants wear masks and practice social distancing during this event.
Holiday Followup
Isabel Reddy delivers the gifts from NHIA to PruittHealth-Carolina Point. Thanks to your generosity we were able to purchase all of the wish list gifts. We are still taking donations to purchase grocery gift cards for staff. (Donations can be made here.) Many thanks to Isabel for organizing this project!!
Holiday Greetings
We don’t have to tell you that it’s been a difficult year. All events, including annual elections have been cancelled, and all officers and Board members have agreed to continue their roles for the coming year. We plan to have elections in November 2021. More information will be sent to membership as the time draws closer.
We do have one NHIA project planned before the end of 2020. NHIA is collecting funds for gifts and needed supplies for the residents and staff of PruittHealth-Carolina Point, on Mt. Sinai and Kerley Road. This facility was hit hard early in the Pandemic and they desperately need some holiday cheer as well as day to day necessities. They have no churches or other non-profits who’ve reached out to them. The Activity Director shared with us the Wish List of the residents. Many of the requested items are things like: blankets, socks, body wash, head phones, watches,
and coloring books.
We invite you to donate to this effort at http://store.newhopeimprovement.com. Checks can also be made to NHIA with PruittHealth in the memo line and sent to New Hope Improvement Association, PO Box 16013, Chapel Hill, NC 27516-6013. In order to minimize contagion, the purchased gifts will be collected and delivered by one person. Helping those in the community has always been one of the missions of NHIA and it seemed appropriate to close out this “lean year” with this major project.
We sincerely hope we will be able to resume our annual activities including Ice Cream Social and the Turkey Run in 2021 and we will also reschedule events planned for this year for 2021 once “the way is clear.” Our best to everyone. Stay safe.
