NHIA Wildflower Hike Report

It was a great day for wildflowers, especially trillium and Atamasco lilies.  The group of 14 was led by Dr. Bob Peet and by surprise co-leader Milo Pyne.  Aside from flower viewing we were treated to sophisticated banter about Latin names and recent name changes of flowers.

Our next event is the Whitfield Rd cleanup on Saturday, May 2.

Membership Meeting Recap 2/24/26

The brief meeting was held to review upcoming events and plans for 2026.  Amelia and Craig Drake have arranged with the DOT for a stretch of Whitfield Rd to be assigned to NHIA to do periodic sweeps for trash and recycling.  We will get a sign on Whitfield Rd!  The first sweep is planned for Sat April 11 – details to come.  Our annual Spring Wildflower Hike with Dr. Bob Peet is planned for Sat April 18 – details to come.  Other events are in the works.  Our meeting was followed by an excellent presentation by Dr. Amy Germuth on Native American history at Hollow Rock.  50+ people attended the talk.

Member Meeting 2/24/26

Please come to our first member meeting of 2026 on Tues Feb 24.  We will discuss our plans for the year as well as sharing pizza starting at 6:30 pm and our short meeting will be followed by a talk by local historian and Solterra resident Dr. Amy Germuth.  She will show artifacts found in the New Hope Creek area including arrowheads and she asks that our members and the public bring in any arrowheads found in this area which she will try to help place in the historical record.  Hope to see everyone there.
